Six best golf courses in Punta Cana

May 3, 2023

Do you play golf? If you do, the Dominican Republic might be the golfer’s paradise you have been looking for. Punta Cana is a resort destination in the Caribbean noted for its golf resorts with spectacular views. There’s a course for everyone, from championship-level layouts to more beginner-friendly tracks.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner or a pro, whether it’s your first or 100th time playing a round of golf. Check out these best six golf courses for the ultimate golfing experience in Punta Cana:

1. Punta Espada Golf Club

The Punta Espada Golf Club is a famous high-end golf course in Punta Cana. Eight of the 18 holes are along the coast, winding through rocky patches and inlets, offering extraordinary views of the Caribbean Sea.

Punta Espada Golf Club was designed by golfing legend Jack Niklaus and opened in November 2006. If you play at Punta Espada, you could brush shoulders with top golfers worldwide. Ranked by GolfWeek publication as the #1 Best Golf Course in the Caribbean and Mexico, Punta Espada hosted professional events on multiple occasions.

Location: Cap Cana, Punta Cana 23000, Dominican Republic

2. Casa de Campo (Teeth of the Dog Golf Course)

Enjoy a “round of a lifetime” at two of the three golf courses of Casa de Campo. The name ‘Teeth of the Dog’ alone would be enough to spark your interest in visiting Casa de Campo, where “golf is a way of life.” Pete Dye designed the golf course, which opened in 1971. He put golf on the map in the Caribbean.

Seven of the 18 holes at the Teeth of the Dog golf course are right along the ocean, rivaling the best golf courses in the world. It is ranked the #1 Golf Course in the Caribbean and #27 worldwide.

Location: Casa de Campo, La Romana, Dominican Republic

3. Puntacana Resort & Club ( Corales Golf Course)

Corales Golf Course is another gem that should be on your bucket list. Corales is one of the two golf courses of Puntacana Resort designed by Tom Fazio in 2010. Corales is known for its dramatic 18-hole course with six holes along the Caribbean oceanside. Corales was an alternate host for the PGA Tour in 2018.

Ranked among the world’s finest golf courses, the Corales golf course winds through ocean coves, bays, inland lakes, and natural cliffs. You shouldn’t miss playing, especially at the last three holes at the Devil’s Elbow. The other golf course in Puntacana is the 27-hole La Cana Golf Course.

Location: Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

4. Playa Grande Golf and Ocean Club

Here is your chance to play at an 18-hole golf course known for its panoramic views, high-end memberships of the Atlantic coastline, and breathtaking cliff edges. Dubbed the modern-day Pebble Beach of the Caribbean, Playa Grande occupies seven miles of amazing landscape in a remote location. It is a private golf course with high-end memberships but definitely one of the best golf courses in the world.

Playa Grande was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. In 1997. Rees Jones redesigned it in 2018. You should also try The Point’s extensive array and food choices, a restaurant on the cliff edge next to the all-world par five 4th hole. What would you give up for an invitation to play at the Playa Grande?

Location: Highway 5, Cabrera Km 9, Rio San Juan 33000, Dominican Republic

5. Casa de Campo (Dye Fore)

Would you want to play golf on a course known for its unique combination of mountains, river, and ocean views? Here’s one for you. The Dye Fore, with its 27 holes golf course, is another golf course at Casa de Campo. Seven holes are on the cliff side with a 300-feet drop to the Chavon River. Pete Dye designed Dye Fore in 2005.

Location: La Romana, Dominican Republic

6. PGA Ocean’s 4 at Bahia Principe

The PGA Ocean’s 4 is one golf course you should experience on the southern coast of the Dominican Republic. Ocean’s 4 has two golf courses- one 18-hole par 72 for players in the intermediate and advanced level and a 9-hole short par 27 for children and beginners.

Maverick Golf designed the 18-hole golf course in 2017. You will be transported into different golf course settings. Four holes are surrounded by lakes and waterfalls, four holes border the Caribbean Sea, and three holes are in a desert-style set complete with rocks and sand.

Location: La Romana Km1 2, La Romana, Dominican Republic
