Things to Do in Punta Cana

May 3, 2023

Punta Cana is a tourist hotspot known for its pristine beaches in the Dominican Republic’s easternmost region. Lumina can help you find the best accommodation for your stay at Punta Cana, so you can enjoy its 20-mile beaches to your heart’s content.

If you have dreamed of sunbathing on white sands overlooking clear seas, this town is the place to be. However, there’s a lot more to do here than just soaking up the sun. If you are curious about what you can do in the Punta Cana, here is everything you need to know.

Catamaran Adventures

While in Punta Cana, do not miss the opportunity to sail with a catamaran along the Caribbean Sea. There are numerous catamaran outings to choose from, and the experience is everything you may have been dreaming of when dreaming about your trip to the Dominican Republic.

Many of them include a snorkeling stop and recreational time at a natural pool off the coast of Punta Cana’s beaches. Some Punta Cana catamaran adventures are more laidback and family-friendly, while others are ideal for a party cruise with plenty of entertainment and alcohol.

If you want to do something different, you can go on a rum-tasting excursion or a snorkeling trip. Before getting off that catamaran, why not also take a catamaran excursion to Saona Island?

Scuba Diving in Punta Cana

What use is the clear sea if you don’t go scuba diving in it? While the Dominican Republic cannot contend with the world’s most incredible diving destinations, such as Indonesia or the Maledives, it does offer some fantastic diving opportunities, either right off the coast of Punta Cana, within the Samaná Bay, or at the Saona and Catalina Islands.

Most divers collect you from your resort, so you can book this recreational activity beforehand to get the most out of your trip to the Dominican Republic.

Ziplining

Ziplining is one of the most popular activities for tourists in Punta Cana because it combines adrenaline with a breathtaking view of the natural tropical environment in this town. In Punta Cana, there are many zipline courses for you to choose from. Most of them have distinct features, so be sure to book one that caters to your needs.

The zipline at Scape Park Cap Cana comes to an end right in the water, offering priceless ocean views, and Bavaro Runners’ zipline cables take you through the vibrant greenery of the Anamuya Mountains. You can also add a hanging bridge experience to your zipline course at Tuko Adventure Park.

Freshwater Lagoons

Ingenious Eyes Ecological Park is another excellent place to visit in Punta Cana. It comprises 1,500 acres of tropical forests and 12 freshwater lagoons, five of which are designated for swimming.

Scientific research is conducted in the park, and it is an attraction for many thrill-seekers to enjoy, thanks to its diving platform that stands over a 26-foot deep lagoon.

Whale Watching

Excursions in Punta Cana can help you learn about this town’s culture and way of life, but you can also learn all about the natural elements found in the city and on its coastline. An example of this is the humpback whales that can be off the town’s coast.

These massive mammals tour the Bay of Samaná, north of Punta Cana, every year between January and March, making this region the most famous whale-watching destination in the Caribbean.

While on a boat, you can get up close and personal with the massive humpback whales and finally check whale-watching off your bucket list.

Visit Hoyo Azul

Hoyo Azul is another great attraction to visit if you are in Punta Cana. It is a sinkhole tucked away at the base of a 39-inch cliff. Often referred to as the “Blue Hole,” Hoyo Azul is a natural attraction filled with clear waters that tourists can swim in.

Get the whole experience by booking an excursion to Hoyo Azul through the lush forests and learn more about the vegetation on the forest floor.
